Traditional Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 1/4 cups flour or flour substitute
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup margarine or shortening
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup nuts (optional)

Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl.  Beat margarine, sugars, and vanilla in a large bowl until creamy.  Add eggs and beat well.  Gradually add flour to wet mixture.  Stir in chocolate chips and nuts if desired. Drop by tablespoon onto baking stone.  Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown.

    Make sure your margarine is not too soft or they flatten out a lot. My husband would have liked if these were more fluffy.
