3 pkgs. gelatin
1 cup cold water, divided
2 cups sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup margarine
6 cups rice krispies
1 cup cold water, divided
2 cups sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup margarine
6 cups rice krispies
To Make Marshmallow Fluff: In a small bowl, soak gelatin with 1/2 cup of the cold water and set aside. In a medium saucepan, cook sugar in the other 1/2 cup water until sugar dissolves. Add gelatin mix and bring to a boil. Pour into large mixing bowl and allow to partially cool. Add salt and vanilla and beat with electric mixer until soft and doubled in size.
In a large sauce pan, melt margarine. Add 2 1/2 cups of the marshmallow fluff and stir until melted. Stir in 6 cups of rice krispies. Spread in a lightly sprayed 9x9 dish for thick treats or 9x13 dish for thin treats.

These turned out pretty good. They were more gelatin-y than I normally would like but they have SO much less corn syrup in them by making homemade marshmallows. They could even be made corn-free if you used a homemade vanilla.
