Applesauce Squares

2 cups flour or flour substitute
2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 cup margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 flax "egg"
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups applesauce
1 cup walnuts (optional)
1 cup raisins (optional)
1 recipe homemade vanilla frosting OR 1 can premade frosting

In a small bowl, mix dry ingredients.  In a large bowl, cream margarine and sugar.  Add vanilla and flax egg.  Mix well.  Slowly mix in dry ingredients.  Add applesauce, walnuts (if using), and raisins (if using).  Put in sprayed 9x13 baking dish.  Bake 25 minutes at 350.  Frost with creamy vanilla frosting.

    Very moist and reminiscent of a carrot cake. The frosting is almost cream-cheesy. You will definitely not feel like you are missing out on this one.
